Androulla Kaminara

Former Ambassador of the European Union

Androulla Kaminara is a career diplomat with more than 40 years of experience in public administration, policymaking, and international diplomacy. She served in senior leadership positions within the European Union and was the first woman EU Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, representing Europe with credibility, authority, and effectiveness.

She served as Director for Humanitarian Aid of the European Union for Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, and as Director for Quality of International Cooperation and Development Programmes, with responsibility for an annual budget of €10 billion. In these roles, she managed major international crises, strengthened transparency, and ensured the effective and accountable use of European resources for the benefit of societies.

She also served as Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, contributing actively to the relationship between Cyprus and the European institutions, and as a member of the cabinets of two European Commissioners, participating directly in the design and implementation of EU policies with tangible impact on citizens.

Her professional experience spans key strategic policy areas, including:
foreign policy and diplomacy, humanitarian aid, development cooperation, energy, research and innovation, digital policy, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, gender equality, and conflict management and prevention.
She has represented the European Union in international fora and multilateral negotiations and has delivered hundreds of public interventions in more than 120 countries worldwide.

She maintains a strong and continuous engagement with academia. She has been a Fellow at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, a researcher at King’s College London, and served as Distinguished Diplomat-in-Residence and Non-Resident Fellow at Georgetown University in Qatar.
Prior to joining the European Union, she worked as a Special Adviser to Ministers in Greece and as Chief Executive Officer of a private consulting firm.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and Physics from King’s College London, a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from Imperial College London, and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
In 2021, she was honoured with the Global Ambassador Award and an International Peace Award for her work in interfaith dialogue.

She speaks Greek, English, and French, as well as intermediate Spanish.
