Greece chooses Norway’s PGS for offshore oil,gas tests

information from New Europe www.neweurope.eu is saying that on 5th September GR minister of the Environment, energy and Climate Change have selected Norway’s Petroleum Geo Services (PGS) to conduct preliminary research for potential offshore oil and gas deposits south of Crete and in the Ionian Sea.

The other three bidders were:

– TGS – Nopec Geophysica Co. ASA

– Spectrum geo Ltd

ION Geophysical Corp (IO)

process was started in Sept 2011 by then Miniser Yiannis Maniatis. It is expected that GR will call for a bidding round for oil and gas exploration in mid 2014

PGS carried ut similar test in CY.

In July GR called a bidding round for three ooil and gas offshore and onshore explorations in the western part of the country. Government hopes that there are about 280mn barrels of oil there. The bidders for that included Hellenic Petroleum, UK based Chariot oil and gas and Schlumberger. Winning bidders to be announced soon.
