Androulla Kaminara

I am standing in the Parliamentary Elections because I am deeply concerned about the direction Cyprus is taking today and firmly believe that the next Parliament will be called upon to make critically important decisions for the country’s future. At such a pivotal moment, I believe we all have a responsibility to step forward and contribute to securing a better tomorrow.

I believe that ALMA embodies the seriousness, institutional understanding, and well-prepared policy proposals that the times demand. On this basis, I place my experience and knowledge at the service of citizens.

For more than forty years, I have served public life in Cyprus, in Europe, and internationally—as a senior official of the European Union, as an EU Ambassador, and as the EU’s Representative in Cyprus. I know first-hand that behind every political decision there are real lives and real consequences. For me, politics is not about slogans or communication; it is about responsibility. It requires knowledge, hard work, clear objectives, transparency, and accountability.

Most national policies and legislation are directly influenced by European decisions—from the economy and labour rights to governance itself. Europe is not distant; it is part of our daily lives. This is the European expertise and international experience I wish to bring to where decisions are made: to Parliament, alongside the citizens of Nicosia.

I believe in justice, equality, and respect for the dignity of every individual. I believe in institutions that function properly and in a Parliament that does not remain silent, but exercises oversight, intervenes when necessary, and demands transparency. I believe in development that strengthens social cohesion and in a society of equality, without exceptions.

Vision and Priorities

Europe – Knowledge That Delivers Results

My 30 years of experience within European institutions allow me to deeply understand how the European Union works and the impact it has on citizens’ lives. A very significant portion of national legislation is influenced or determined by European law — in several member states, it is estimated to reach around 50% or more, especially in areas such as the environment, consumer protection, transport, and justice.

The European Union legislates primarily through regulations and directives. Regulations apply directly in all member states, while directives require national implementation, giving national parliaments a crucial role in how they are applied. This means that many national laws would not exist without the European framework — and that timely and substantive parliamentary intervention in shaping European policies is essential.

Commitment
As a Member of Parliament, I will leverage this experience to monitor, intervene, and effectively utilize European legislative work from the stage of its formation, so that Cyprus legislates knowledgeably, protects its interests in a timely manner, and does not settle for passive implementation of decisions.

The Responsibility of Parliament

The insecurity experienced by citizens is not accidental. It arises from poor governance, lack of accountability, instances of corruption, and the inability to foresee the consequences of decisions that affect them. Parliament has the responsibility to operate with care, consistency, and transparency, protecting society.

A functional state means transparency, predictability, and effectiveness: citizens must know what is being decided, how it will affect their lives, and how long it will take. This is my commitment as a Member of Parliament.

Commitment
As a Member of Parliament, with full dedication and concern for citizens, I will fight for strengthening parliamentary oversight, real supervision of the executive, transparency in decision-making, and effective functioning of institutions, so that decisions are predictable, fair, and serve the public interest, as in any well-functioning state.

New Technologies – Innovation with Respect

I believe that new technologies represent a great opportunity for development, innovation, and improving the lives of all citizens, but they must be developed and used with respect for personal data, security, and human rights. Technology should not create exclusion or reinforce inequalities, but instead provide real opportunities for everyone – young people, the elderly, workers, the unemployed, and vulnerable social groups.

The digital era must be accompanied by full access to education, training, and digital skills, so that every citizen can benefit from technology and participate actively in society and the economy. At the same time, digital development policies must respect the environment and promote sustainability, reinforcing intergenerational justice.

Commitment
I will support policies that ensure accessible, safe, and equal opportunities in the digital world for all, with clear rules for personal data, transparency in the use of technology, and meritocracy, so that innovation serves society and future generations.

Development – For All, Not Just a Few

I stand alongside young people seeking opportunities, families struggling every day, workers and the unemployed, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises carrying the weight of the economy. Development should not serve only a few; it must benefit everyone, promoting social cohesion and stability.

Supporting the middle class is central, as it forms the backbone of the economy and fosters stability. Development is also linked to the creation of quality jobs that offer security, meritocracy, and long-term prospects, ensuring that workers have motivation and stability.

Progress must be based on transparent rules and merit-based criteria, combating corruption and clientelism. At the same time, development policies must be long-term, scientifically grounded, and sustainable, rather than opportunistic or short-term.

Commitment
I will support development policies that create quality jobs, strengthen the middle class, and ensure that progress is shared fairly, guided by meritocracy, clear rules, long-term planning, and scientific evidence, so that all citizens have equal opportunities and benefit from development.

Equality – Respect Without Exceptions

I stand alongside every person who feels invisible or excluded and deserves full equality, security, and respect. This includes people with disabilities, young people seeking opportunities, women striving for equal chances, workers and the unemployed, the poor and economically vulnerable, the elderly who seek dignity in their later years, LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as everyone belonging to any religion or none at all.

Equality is not a theory; it is a daily right and a duty of the state towards every citizen. It also includes full access to education, social mobility, technology, and digital opportunities, so that no one is left behind in the modern world.

Beyond immediate rights, I am committed to intergenerational justice, respecting the environment, the distribution of wealth, and opportunities, so that today’s choices do not undermine the lives and potential of future generations.

Commitment
I will defend policies that ensure equal rights, genuine access, and equal opportunities for all, guided by clear rules, meritocracy, and care, while simultaneously protecting the environment, education, digital capabilities, and the prospects of future generations.

Peace & Cyprus’ International Role

Cyprus can and must have a credible voice and play a meaningful role in promoting peace in Europe and the broader region. Our country could serve as a beacon of legality and meritocracy, be a model state in implementing European laws and United Nations decisions, and participate actively in international initiatives that promote cooperation, stability, and peace.

Cyprus must leverage its participation in international organizations such as the EU and the UN, protect its maritime rights and energy security, strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries, and contribute to regional peace and security initiatives. At the same time, our country must defend the rights of Cypriots abroad and establish itself as a hub of international diplomacy and peacebuilding initiatives.

Commitment
I will utilize my international experience to promote a just and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, strengthen Cyprus’ presence, prestige, and credibility in European and international forums, and ensure that our country becomes a model of legality, meritocracy, and responsible implementation of international decisions, actively participating in international dialogue and initiatives.
